Three things the shape shows

Most of the numbers are missing on purpose

The 209 pages between them publish 1002 specification rows — a torque, a pressure, a temperature, a clearance. 415 of those rows carry a number traced to a manufacturer document or a standards body. The other 587, 59% of them, say consult the documentation for your equipment and name the reason. Narrow that to the rows whose subject can hurt you — anything matching the safety-critical list this repository screens on — and the refusal gets stronger, not weaker: 117 of 150 rows across 84 pages, 78%. A guessed torque figure reads exactly like a correct one. That is the whole reason for the gap. Where two sources disagreed, 90 rows print the disagreement and both sources rather than splitting the difference.

The categories are not a filing system, they are the real shape

Every published page names four to eight related pages, which gives 1,339 cross-references and 832 distinct pairs. Nothing tells the drawing which category a page belongs to except a gentle pull; the clusters you see are made by the links. They hold together — which means the six headings match the way the work actually connects. The exception is visible from across the room: Tools, measurement and records is dragged into the middle, because 64% of its links point out of its own category. Reading a data plate or decoding a date code is not a subject, it is a thing you do before every other subject. Computing and networking sits furthest out, with only 14%: a router problem stays a router problem.

How this page was made

Every figure above was counted out of the records when the site was built. The table is the page: it needs nothing but HTML, and on a narrow screen or a browser without WebGL it is all you get, because a reader should never be shown an empty frame where a picture was supposed to be.

Where the drawing does appear, it is solved from those same records rather than composed by hand. Each pair of cross-referenced pages is treated as a spring, each category as a weak anchor, and every page pushes every other away; the positions settle where those forces balance. The same records, the same starting seed and the same number of passes always give the same field, so the picture can be checked against the data like any other part of this site. Column height is the step count of that procedure. A column is full width from the ground up to the share of its specifications verified against a tier-1 source, then steps in and becomes narrower and paler for the share published as consult the manufacturer — so a page that verified everything is a full column, a page that verified nothing is a thin spire, and the shoulder where one becomes the other is the point the evidence ran out. That is a change of shape rather than a change of colour, which is deliberate: it is the most important thing this drawing says, and it has to survive being read small, in greyscale, by someone who cannot separate the six hues. The drawing reads its numbers out of the table, not the other way round.
